Jeff,
Here are the pics we talked about that show the different powers of the camera.
Look at your shoes and you can really see the difference. Again, my camera defaults
to High Res when I open it but I almost always "calm it down" to Medium Res for
most pics. Otherwise the camera takes up too many memory resources. It means fewer
pictures on your memory card, longer time for the camera to recycle before it can take the
next pic and sometimes a bunch of high res pics will blow up my pc at home too. And,
as you know, the High Resolution doesn't email well! As a rule I can say this about
resolutions:
#1. I never use Low Resolution
#2. Medium is good quality and its still a useable pic without doing anything
special to it.
#3. High resolutions are bad news across the internet (that includes e-mail).
When I use high resolution on the websites I do one of two things: I
crop them only selecting the interesting areas of the pic or I resize them BEFORE they go
to the internet. Usually the former (cropping) is what happens. Its how I create my
fake panorama pics for the holeshots.
Low Resolution
640x480 (memory resources=77k)
Medium Resolution
1280x960 (memory resource=273k)
High Resolution
(memory resources=904k or much, much higher)
Use your file manager (windows explorer) to see the size of your pics easily.
Make sure you put "View/Details" on so you can see. Either that or
just right click on the pic and you will get the size and the memory its consuming.
And, remember that with a digital, its best to shoot at higher res then crop
to get the best part of the image. That way you get a small memory size, great
quality, and the best part of the image. And if you do permanently resize a big
pic, do it all at once or it may blur out on you. Don't keep reducing it with multiple
passes.
Now you owe me... next time you see me ride you can give me pointers. ((You
know, "if they only knew" then all the young riders would understand why
Diamond, ACE and Walden are the best big air tracks around. Its not just your skill with
"the blade" that makes the tracks great. No, its "bar and blade".
But only us old timers would know about that!! ha ha))
