(37th Anniversary of the March on Washington) WHAT: A Southwest Michigan solidarity protest with the Washington, D.C. demonstration against police brutality and racial profiling. WHEN & WHERE: Saturday, August 26, in Kalamazoo. Assemble at 11:30 a.m. and march at 12 noon from the Douglass Community Association, 1000 W. Paterson, to City Hall, 241 W. South Street in downtown Kalamazoo, for a rally at 1 p.m. WHO: Sponsored by the Southwest Michigan Coalition Against Racism and Police Brutality and the National Police Misconduct Project (of Battle Creek). WHY: August 26, 2000, is the 37th anniversary of the March on Washington where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous "I Have A Dream Speech" before hundreds of thousands of civil rights marchers. If Dr. King were alive today, he would be protesting against the police brutality and racial profiling that is rampant across America. Southwest Michigan is no exception. We join with the national protest in Washington to seek justice on all levels and in all parts of the country.
