(1) USA TODAY AD EXPOSES BUSH'S FIRST RIGHT-WING PICK

When you open up USA Today this morning, be sure to check out People For
The American Way's newest ad that urges Americans to consider what
presidential candidate George W. Bush's choice of running mate says about
his potential Supreme Court nominees.

It will be six years tomorrow since the last justice was sworn in -- the
longest span without an appointment in 177 years.  There is near-universal
agreement that the next President is likely to have the opportunity to
appoint up to three new justices to the Court and Bush has named Justices
Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas, the Court's two most right-wing
justices, as the models for his appointments.

A Scalia-Thomas Court majority could overturn over 100 court precedents and
turn back the clock on civil rights, women's rights, workers' rights,
disability rights, privacy rights, reproductive rights, environmental
rights and consumer rights.
