MultiMode 2.01 Code-
Don't know exactly what a Stealth 2.8a or MultiMode chip does differently from a Universal or Standard chip? This page will provide some useful information on this topic.

MultiMode 2.01 code works in all playstation models.
Types of mod chips:
First off, I will explain that there are three basic types of mod chips:
  • Universal / Standard,
  • Stealth,
  • and MultiMode.
Universal or Standard chips are the type which have no defense mechanism against the new anti-mod chips protections that new games are coming out with. Stealth chips, however, hide themselves from these anti-mod games, thereby defeating the protection. MultiMode chips, the third type of chip, will function as either Stealth OR Universal mod chips, when wired the proper way. MultiMode chips also contain a newer version of the Stealth code that is not available by itself.

Stealth code in a nutshell:
The Stealth mod code defeats Sony's new anti-mod chip protection schemes. In new playstation games, which include Dino Crisis and many Japanese imports, the software can recognize the presence of a mod chip in your system, and immediately halt. But with Stealth code, the mod chip turns off once it is no longer needed, and then cannot be detected by the software!

Now, the non-lamen's description of the Stealth code:
The Universal mod chips works by sending a signal to the playStation circuitry. The first thing the code says is, "This is a valid Sony playStation game." Since commercial CD-R drives cannot burn the 'bad' sectors into blank CDs like Sony's burners can, this code would normally be absent with a backed-up game, causing the playstation to halt boot-up. Next the code says, "This game is from the USA, Europe, and Japan." Sony has set up the playstation bios to only allow games produced in the same country as the playstation being used to work properly. By making the playstation think that the game is from all three countries, your imports are guarenteed to run. But Sony got smart all of the sudden, and implimented a 'mod chip detection' function into their games. In new games like Dino Crisis and FF8, the software will simply look for the code constantly being pumped out of the mod chip, and if it finds it, stops boot up. In order to get around this, a mod chip code was produced which simply detect

MultiMode Chips:
MultiMode chips contain the newest version of the Stealth code available. This version of the Stealth code is not even available in stand-alone Stealth chips. MultiMode v2.01 will play all games to date, including Dino Mode, without problems. When wired using the MultiMode installation diagrams, it will function as a stealth chip. If you wire it up using a Universal 4-pin installation diagram (or if you activate Classic Mode by holding the reste button for 3 seconds twice), it will function as a Universal chip.
    Advantages of MultiMode 2.01 code:
  • Dino Crisis works without needing to enter a special 'Dino Mode.' Protection on games like Dino Crisis is auto-detected by the MultiMode chip.
  • Chip Disable Mode. The chips is completely turned off when the reset button is held for 3 seconds.
  • Universal Modchip Mode. The chip acts like a 4-wire Universal chip when the reset button is held for another 2 seconds.
