STEALTH2 vs. Universal- First, a description of the Stealth 2.8a code: The new Stealth 2.8a mod code defeats Sony's new anti-mod chip protection schemes. In new playstation games, which include Dino Crisis and FF8, the software can recognize the presence of a mod chip in your system, and immediately halt. But with the new Stealth 2.8a code, the mod chip turns off once it is no longer needed, and then cannot be detected by the software! Now, the non-lamen's description of the STEALTH2 chip: The Universal mod chips works by sending a signal to the playStation circuitry. The first thing the code says is, "This is a valid Sony playStation game." Since commercial CD-R drives cannot burn the 'bad' sectors into blank CDs like Sony's burners can, this code would normally be absent with a backed-up game, causing the playstation to halt boot-up. Next the code says, "This game is from the USA, Europe, and Japan." Sony has set up the playstation bios to only allow games produced in the same country as the playstation being used to work properly. By making the playstation think that the game is from all three countries, your imports are guarenteed to run. But Sony got smart all of the sudden, and implimented a 'mod chip detection' function into their games. In new games like Dino Crisis and FF8, the software will simply look for the code constantly being pumped out of the mod chip, and if it finds it, stops boot up. In order to get around this, a mod chip code was produced which simply detects when the playstation is reset or powered up. It then sends out the proper codes, and finally ceases to send them out once they are no longer needed. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
