The front page of today's Herald reports on "the largest shipment of the drug [cocaine] to come to Australia". It may be the largest shipment actually apprehended, but this shouldn't stand in the way of a good story and some grandstanding by Ms Vanstone. In any case, with a generally accepted figure of 5 per cent of all drugs being apprehended, it would seem that a solution to the drug problem will not be found in sensational "busts". LARS NEWMAN |
